In fields of construction, machinery and
manufacturing, drilling machines play a stellar role in drilling operations.
Drilling machines are used to drill holes of various diameters and surface
finish over different surfaces. They come in various shapes and sizes. While
the smaller ones are used by homeowners for odd household jobs, the bigger
drilling machines are used in construction sites, road repairs and factories.
Drilling
machines have a cylindrical profile consisting of an elongated steel frame that
varies from half an inch to six inches. The elongated portion ends in a sharp
point and has round grooves on its body. The pointed end is known as drill bit
which is attached to a Morse taper component and is rotated by a spindle that
is connected to a motor inside the cylindrical body. The device can rotate at
varying speeds and you can also change the drill bits according to the
operations.
Things to consider while buying a drilling machine
1. Cord or Cordless: Cordless machines are easier to use. You can take
them anywhere and use it according to your whims as long the battery is
charged. However, the battery won’t last long. Here’s where the benefit of
corded drilling machines. They give better torque and running time. Again, the
lifetime of cordless machine batteries is limited and replacing them is costly
too. A corded drilling machine will last you many years at a stretch.
2. Drill bit: The drill bit is the part which goes into the surface on
which it is drilled. While choosing the drill bit, you should take into
consideration the torque of the machine. The torque should be around 400-500
per minute for the drill bit to work perfectly.
3. Brand: When you are buying a drill machine for home use, it is impertinent
to get the drill machine from a renowned brand. There are a ton of brands
including Bosch, STANLEY, Hitachi etc. which deal in high-quality brands. When
you buy a branded machine, you can be assured of its performance and
efficiency.
