Man
has been dependant on tools for centuries to make his work easier. As years
passed, more and more tools came up to the fore to expedite his tasks. With the
blessing of technology, tools became automated which speeded up the work
process and relieved him from the grind. One such tool is the bore gauge. The bore
gauge is an instrument used to measure the depth and inside diameter of a hole.
It gives the user an idea about what type of screw or any other object will be
able to penetrate into the hole.
Types of bore gauges
Bore
gauges are of three types: small hole gauges, telescopic gauges and bore dial
gauges.
Small
hole gauges are used to measure small holes. The gauge is inserted into the
hole at an angle. Once the gauge goes into the hole, a knob is adjusted after a
pressure is detected against the side of the bore. After that, the small hole
gauge is removed and the measurement is put on a calliper for the final
reading.
Telescopic
gauges are used in the same manner as the small hole gauges. Its usage is
simple and quite straightforward. While inserting the gauge, it is slightly
moved till the gauge reaches the other side of the hole. The anvils of the
telescopic gauge lock in place while you remove the bore gauge from the hole.
One of the significant features of telescopic gauges is that it measures the
size of the bore by transferring the diameter to a measuring tool.
The
Precision bore dial gauge with dial indicator is an upgraded version of the bore
gauge. With this, you can take measurements without removing the gauge from the
hole.
It
is important to research about the bore gauges before you set your mind on
buying them. There are different brands of bore gauges you can choose from including
Mitutoyo Bore Gauge, Hi-Mezar Dial Bore Gauge.
